By tdomf_d782a

League leaders Killala played host to title rivals Urlaur Utd tonight at Courthouse St and tightened their grip at the top with a comprehensive 6-2 win. it was not all plain sailing though and goals from Kyle McLoughlin & Nathan Browne had the home team 2-1 at the break in a tight competitive match. But the game became bad tempered in the second half with the sides locked 2-2 which saw the visitors finish with seven players. Killala scored a further 4 through Kevin Healy (2) Anthony Kearney & Aaron O Boyle to remain top and set up a cracker away to Snugboro Utd in two weeks where a win will crown them champions.

U-16 Boys Start With Victory

By tdomf_d782a

Killala 4 S&F Utd 2

Killala U-16 boys started off their league season with a hard fought 4-2 win at home to a very strong S&F United.Killala got the perfect start taking the lead inside five minutes with a well taken free on the edge of the box by D O Boyle. However the away side soon levelled and then took the lead after the home side conceded a penalty.Killala were next to be awarded a penalty for handball but missed the effort only to level the match just before half time from a corner by K Higgins. The second half continued with both teams attacking and Killala took the lead ten minutes from time when O Boyle finished off a lovely move down the left side.As S&F pressed forward in search of an equaliser O Boyle completed his tat-trick with a fine finish. In what was an entertaining game the home defence was rock solid in the second period.

Just one of those days !

By tdomf_d782a

Claremorris 2 Killala 0

Killala U-16 traveled to Claremorris hoping to retain their 3rd place in the league but it just wasn’t to be.
Claremorris opened the scoring after just 2 minutes after a defensive error allowed one of the Claremorris strikers through to round the Killala keeper and slot the ball home.
However for the rest of the game Killala pounded the Claremorris goal which will need a new paint job after being struck 3 times in the first half and 6 times in the second not including a venemous strike by Killala’s Mattie Kane which had the Claremorris keeper well beat but shook both posts.
The home side went in at half time shocked to be 1-0 up.
Killala piled on even more pressure in the 2nd half and were denied an equaliser by the Claremorris goalkeeper (man of the match) who pulled off superb saves to deny Killala’s Jason Carroll, Ryan Sweeney, Cian Noone, James Noone, Daragh O’Boyle, Simon Helly & Mattie Kane.
Killala pushed and probed for the equaliser and left just Cian Monaghan and Eoin O’Neill in defense to handle the non existant Claremorris attack but it was just one of those days when deep into injury time Claremorris cleared one of Killala’s 12 corners and with their only decent passing movements of the game punished Killala with the final score of the game to have it finish 2-0 to the home side.
Both teams left the pitch scratching their heads at the score for different reasons.
Killala team: J. Flannelly, P. Murphy, C.Monaghan, J. Carroll, E. O’Neill, J. Noone, D.Haugh, C.Noone, M.Kane, D.O’Boyle and S.Helly. Subs: R.Sweeny for D.Haugh (50 min)
