Castlebar Town 3 Killala 4
Killala traveled to Castlebar Town in the first round of the F.A.I. U-13 cup on Saturday in what promised to be a close encounter and so it was with Killala emerging victorious winning 4-3.
Killala took the lead early in the game when Killala captain K Higgins put a free kick into the box and D Lawlor scored to put the visitors deservedly in the lead.
Castlebar got an equaliser when it seemed that the Killala Keeper D Walsh had a shot well covered but it took a cruel deflection and ended up in the back of the net.
Both teams battled hard but it was Castlebar who took the lead late into the first half.
Killala deservedly equalised on the stroke of half time when Killala midfielder K Healy scored.
Killala once again took the lead when K Healy got his 2nd of the game then substitute B Lawlor on for C McHale put a great ball through for A Kearney to score which proved to be the winner as Castlebar pulled one back near the end and threw players forward but Killala held firm thanks to Killala’s man of the match K Higgins in defence to record a 4-3 win.
Killala team:
Declan Walsh, Peter Lynott, Conor Mooney, David Lawlor, Cian McHale, Keith Higgins (Capt), Kevin Healy, Anthony Kearney,
Nathan Browne, Shane McAndrew, Kieran Lally. Sub Brian Lawlor.

Killala 2 Conn Rangers 5
Killala U-13 entertained fellow league leaders Conn Rangers this evening needing to win the game having already played a game more than the visitors but despite their best efforts ended up on the wrong side of a 5-2 scoreline despite taking an early lead.
After a tight opening 5 min a defensive clearance by Killala’s David Lawlor fell kindly to Shane McAndrew who beat one defender and strike a brilliant opener.
Conn Rangers pressed for an equaliser and were rewarded 15 minutes into the game.
Killala were unable to make their own efforts pay dividend due to a resolute Rangers defence and even after Killala’s Nathan Browne had to leave the pitch due to injury they were unlucky to go behind against the run of play. Conn Rangers scored again 5 minutes before the break again against the run of play to take a 3-1 lead in at half time.
The 2nd half started much the same as the first but it was the visitors who scored an absolute screamer which left the Killala keeper no chance.
Killala needing to win this game threw caution to the wind and were rewarded after Shane McAndrew picked the ball up in midfield and skipped past a few defenders to finish well to get his 2nd of the game to bring Killala deservedly back into the game.
With Killala pressing and Conn Rangers defending well it was a free kick from outside the box which was well taken. Conn Rangers deservedly win this league but were given a run from their money in this game thanks in no small part by the return from injury by Killlala captain and defensive lynchpin Keith Higgins.
Shane McAndrew finishes top scorer for Killala with 9 goals but was pushed close by Kyle McLoughlin with 8 and Kieran Lally and Kevin Healy also putting a few goals in.
Tony & Brian would like to take this oppertunity to tell all our players just how proud we were of them and not just for tonight but for their efforts over the entire season …. Thank You.
Killala Team: D Walsh, R McGuire, P Lynott, D Lawlor, K Higgins (C), A Kenny, K Healy, N Browne, K McLoughlin, K Lally & S McAndrew.
All subs used which were P O’Donnell, C Mooney, B Lawlor, T Dempsey and A Lally.

Conn Rangers 5 Killala 1
Killala traveled to their next League opponents Conn Rangers on a miserable wet Tuesday evening to play in the U-13 Mayo cup.
Killala started the better team and deservedly took the lead after Anthony Kearney put Kyle McLoughlin through who finished well to put the visitors 1 up after only 5 minutes.
Conn rangers equalised 10 minutes into the game and kept up the pressure to score twice more to leave the score 3-1 to the home side at the break.
Early into the 2nd half Conn Rangers extended thier lead. Killala pressed hard to reduce the defecit but the ball would just not break for them and were unlucky not to pull at least 2 goals back but it was the home team who scored 2 more during the course of the game to give them a deserved 6-1 victory although the scoreline did not reflect the true effort put in by the Killala lads.
Killala Team: D Walsh, C Mooney, P Lynott, D Lawlor, C McHale (D Dempsey 40min), S McAndrew, K Healy (A Lally 60min), N Browne, K McLoughlin, K Lally, A Kearney (B Lawlor 35 min).

Party Athletic 0 Killala 1
Killala U-13′s kept their league ambitions alive but just about after they emerged victorious after a 1-0 win away to Partry Athletic this Wednesday evening.
Killala lost thier captain Keith Higgins, and defensive linchpin, after only a minute had been played due to an ongoing knee injury that forced him off the field.
Killala made the breakthrough after 5 minutes when Killala’s Nathan Browne put in a cross from the right hand side that somehow found its way through a bunch of players to find Kieran Lally who poked the ball home.
It turned out to be what could be a vital goal in Killala’s league campaign because it was end to end football for the remainder of the match.
Although there were very few shots on target from either team both goalkeepers dealt with them comfortably with Killala’s keeper being slightly the busier.
What was an enthraling game for the local supporters to watch it left both sets of managers biting their nails and ruing missed chances especially Killala’s Kyle McLoughlin who’s shot agonisingly wide late in the 2nd half.
Partry to thier credit threw everything except the kitchen sink at Killala including the goalkeeper but the defense held firm.
Killala Team: D Walsh, R McGuire, C Mooney, D Lawlor, K Higgins, A Kenny, K Healy, N Browne, K McLoughlin, S McAndrew & K Lally.
Subs: A Kearney for K Higgins (1st Minute), D Collins for A Kearney (55 Minutes), B Lawlor for D Collins (63 Minutes), C McHale, P O’Donnell

Killala U-13 kept their fine league form up with an impressive 5-1 win against Urlar Utd on Friday evening 27/08/10.
Killala’s man of the match Kyle McLoughlin opened the score after 5 minutes with the first goal of his hatrick.
Killala had the lions share of possesion and were rewarded for their efforts with Kyle McLoughlin getting his second and Shane McAndrew scoring just before the break to leave the home side 3-0 up at half time.
It was much the same for the home side in the second half and only for some great saves from the Urlar & Mayo U-14 goalkeeper denying Shane McAndrew, Kieran Lally and Kevin Healy.
The pick of the Killala goals was Kyle McLoughlin’s third after some fine footwork by Killala’s right midfielder Nathan Browne beating 3 players to cross to Kevin Healy who laid the ball of to Kyle McLoughlin to smash in his third of the evening.
10 minutes from time another great run down the right by Nathan Browne who sent the Ball accross for Kieran Lally who finished first time to score a well deserved goal that his hard work deserved.
Killala conceeded a penalty 5 minutes from time after Shane McAndrew pushed the Urlar striker over inside the box, the resulting spot kick was sent high over the bar.
Killala’s defence were rock solid throughout the game but in the last minute Killala’s concentration faltered after a mazy run from centre back Keith Higgins broke down which left Killala exposed and Urlar punished this mistake and scored a concellation goal.
The match ended just as Killala restarted and after a dissapointing opening game loss to Conn Rangers on the opening game Killala are well poised in this campaign in 2nd place with the leaders (Conn Rangers) coming to Killala on the last day of the league.
Killala Team:D. Walsh, C. Mooney, C. McHale, P. Lynott, K. Higgins (c), A. Kearney, K. Healy, N. Browne, K. McLoughlin, K. Lally & S. McAndrew.
subs: Birthday Boy Brian Lawlor for Cian McHale 50 minutes and Darren Collins for Anthony Kearney 50 minutes.

Killala 7 Snugboro 0
Killala U-13 entertained Snugboro United this evening and it was allways going to be a close affair seeing as 3 weeks ago Killala emerged Victorious at Snugboro in a narrow 4-3 win.
As the old saying goes football is definately a game of 2 half’s with very little seperating the 2 sides after the first 35 minutes and only for some fine defending by both sides both teams going in scoreless at half time.
The introduction of Anthony Kearney at half time paid immediate reward after the Killala player beat 3 defenders and struck the ball sweetly to give the home side the lead.
After that the flood gates opened up with 2 goals from Killala’s Kevin Healy and 1 apiece for Kyle McLoughlin, Shane McAndrew, Kieran Lally and Rory McGuire making the final score 7-0 with most being set up by man of the match Nathan Browne who terrorised Snugboro down the right wing.
Killala are now joint top of the league and now with 5 wins in a row seem like the form side in the division.
Team:Declan Walsh, Peter Lynott (Padraic O’Donnell 65min), Connor Mooney (Brian Lawlor 50min), David Lawlor, Keith Higgins, Kevin Healy (Tom Dempsey 65 min), Alan Kenny (Kieran Lally 40min), Caelan Dorris (Anthony Kearney 35min), Kyle McLoughlin, Shane McAndrew (Domnick Dempsey 50min), Nathan Browne and Rory McGuire replacing the injured Domnick Dempsey after 60 min.
