First home win for U16 Girls.

Killala 2 Ballinrobe Town 1

Killala FC girls opened their first home game of the season strong and successfully, with a cracker of a goal from Alison Munnelly within the first 8 minutes resulting in a 2-1 win over Ballinrobe. Holding a majority of the possession throughout the first half, center midfielder Aoileen Collins smashed the top corner of the goal with a superb free kick from outside the box, sealing the second goal for Killala before half time. With another strong start to the second half, fantastic balls played through by Captain Grainne McHale, Jacinta Munnelly, Caoimhe Reilly and goal scorer Collins gave striker Alison Munnelly many opportunities to have a crack at the impressive Ballinrobe Goalkeeper, but none of which hit the back of the net. With left back Karen Lawlor making great runs down the wing, the Killala girls created great havoc for the Ballinrobe defenders. With five minutes left until full time, Ballinrobe managed to sneak a goal past Killala’s keeper Emma Munnelly, who had already made some very impressive saves throughout the 80mins. New recruits Ailbhe Reilly, Shannon Cummins, Ailbhe Murray and Poppy Bradley are showing great potential and are breaking nicely into the squad. Let’s hope the girls keep up this unbeaten season when they play away to Castlebar Town next Tuesday.
